Making your Information Accessible to all of your Customers

Here are a few tips to help you towards making your Information Accessible to all of your Customers, I hope it helps:

  1. Recruit a disability champion - enrol the best person to help you drive this concept forward for your organisation.
  2. Implement a training plan to ensure all staff receive training to understand their legal obligations towards both disabled staff and disabled customers.
  3. Develop a strategy for improving your service delivery to your customers.
  4. Write an Access Statement and Policy that your organisation can implement – this will ensure in the future you will be guiding your organisation forward  to legislation compliance.
  5. Audit how well your customers ‘Access your Services’
  6. Address the barriers highlighted in your Audit and prioritise your actions.
  7. Re-visit and re-write your Access statement based on what you now know about your services and the barriers you need to address.
  8. Implement changes to ensure compliance – these can be staged for easy management. Remember to ensure the vital ones are dealt with first and timetable the remaining changes so that they do actually happen.
  9. Upon completion of the changes consider the advantages of a re-Audit as you will then be able to assess how your customers can now ‘Access your Services’ and how you are benefitting from these changes.
